Can dry skin cause bruising?

Short answer: No, dry skin does not directly cause bruising.

Detailed answer

Dry skin itself does not have a direct link to bruising. However, extremely dry skin can become thin and fragile, which may make it more prone to bruising. Dry skin lacks proper moisture, which can lead to dehydration and can contribute to a weakened skin barrier. This weakened barrier can make the skin more sensitive and susceptible to damage, including bruises. Additionally, scratching excessively due to itching caused by dry skin can lead to trauma to the skin, resulting in bruising. So while dry skin doesn't directly cause bruising, it can indirectly contribute to it by weakening the skin's integrity and making it more vulnerable to bruises.
